The Orillia & District Camera Club (ODCC) is “Celebrating Photography” during the month of December at the Orillia Museum of Art and History. Over 50 framed photographic works of the clubs members are displayed at the museum for the public to view and purchase if desired. Some of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Museum. The opening reception on December 5th was a “real success” says to David Kennedy, club president and long standing member. Onlookers who attend the event were extremely interested and complimentary of the variety of works that include landscapes, nature, portraiture and close up photographs and more taken both locally and abroad. The club is trying to be more involved in community events each year. Last September members participated in the Festival of the Arts and worked with the Orillia Couchiching Conservancy. At a recent Christmas dinner, the members held a 50/50 draw and raised $100.00 to donate to the local food bank. The Orillia camera club currently has 58 members from all walks of life and photographic skills that range from the very beginner to the advanced. This makes for interesting conversations and learning assistance at regular club meetings, outings and special events. Sharing photo art is only part of the club camaraderie. Members are involved in local and Georgian Bay camera club competitions. The club has also been proactive in moving into the digital world with workshops, instructional sessions and guest speakers. New members are always welcome to join in to learn and have fun. If you are interested in meeting people with some of your interests come out and try a meeting.
